Upon completion, students receive a certificate for the online portion, which must be signed off by a Firearms Instructor for range qualification. H.B. 3424 now requires classroom instruction on handgun proficiency to include self-defense tactics for commissioned security officers.

Course Details:

  • Minimum 45 hours (35 lecture, 10 practical; additional hours recommended)

  • Online access: 30 days from purchase (extensions available)

  • Firearms proficiency must be completed within 90 days and submitted to TOPs.

Course Details:
This course is the online training component only. Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of course completion for the online training. The Firearms Qualification & Defensive Tactics components are to be completed separately. The certificate must be signed off by a Firearms Instructor for range qualification. Training Requirement Update:
Beginning January 1, 2024, H.B. 3424 amends the Occupations Code to require that classroom instruction on handgun proficiency, included as part of a basic training course for commissioned security officers, also include instruction on self-defense tactics.

Hours Required:

  • Minimum 45 hours (35 hours lecture, 10 hours practical; additional hours recommended)

  • Course access available for 30 days from purchase. Contact us if an extension is needed.

  • Firearms proficiency demonstration must be completed within 90 days of application and submitted to TOPs. Failure to complete or submit in time requires retaking the course.
